The first tower crane in Nottingham’s Waterside Regeneration Area has been erected signalling the start of Trent Park Developments’ £40 million apartment development off Trent Lane to be known as River Crescent. The development will feature a mixture of apartments ranging from one to five bedrooms supported by a resident’s health and fitness club, business centre, riverside parkland setting and a fleet of emission-free vehicles. This is the first scheme to start on site based upon the masterplan commissioned by Nottingham Waterside Limited the joint venture between Nottingham Regeneration Limited and British Waterways. A planning application by Isis Waterside Regeneration on the adjoining site at Trent Basin is expected shortly showing the confidence in both developers and funders in what has been described as the jewel in Nottingham’s regeneration crown.
Mich Stevenson, Chairman of Nottingham Waterside Limited, expressed his delight that work has now started next to the Trent. He added “It has taken some time to achieve lift-off in Waterside but we have been determined that the quality of development would set new standards in Nottingham. Trent Park Developments are to be congratulated for their determination in avoiding a quick fix and investing in a scheme which will be a bench mark for new developments in the area.”
With ongoing development activity in Southside at Waterside Plaza (Jury’s Hotel) and in Eastside (Litmus Building on Huntingdon Street) there are now tower cranes in all three of Nottingham’s Regeneration Areas. Alan Swales, Chief Executive of NRL, commenting on the current position said “The painstaking work of NRL in partnership with the City Council in establishing a robust framework to encourage investment in previously less fashionable parts of Nottingham is now paying dividends. The plans which we and our partners have put in place will, hopefully, provide Nottingham with a steady flow of new, quality developments over the next 15 years or so helping to build a strong, confident city that is at the forefront of the region’s economy.”
