- Victoria Leisure Centre
The City Council's decision to redevelop the Victoria Leisure Centre presented an opportunity to look at both the Leisure Centre site and the adjoining vacant Brook Street site to co-ordinate the approach to redevelopment to maximise the regeneration potential. A feasibility study and masterplan was completed in 2009. The £9million new Victoria Leisure Centre is currently on site and scheduled for completion in March 2012. It includes two pools, studios and a 50 station fitness suite, which retains and refurbishes the historic clock tower.
Linked projects resulting from the masterplan include Dance4's proposal for a new organisational base, including 15,000sqft of studio and creative work space as Phase 1, to be known as Space4. Dance4 are putting together bids for ERDF and Arts Council funding to deliver this proposal.
