Nottingham now has the physical capacity to reinvent itself. Three sites to the south and east of the city centre will provide £2.5 billion of development opportunities.
Stretching from the northern edge of the city centre, they run east and south all the way to the River Trent. Put together they would cover 300 football pitches, one of the largest regeneration sites in the UK.

It was set up as a public/private partnership in 1998, as a response to a real local need. Nottingham City Council, East Midlands Development Agency, English Partnerships and members of the private sector are all on its board.

Nottingham's city centre is the region's most spectacular success story. It is consistently among the top five retail centres in the UK - over the last five years floor space has increased by 40%, yet there are still hundreds of retailers waiting to move in. Residents have moved back into the city centre, which now sees 40% of all new house building. New infrastructure is supporting this expansion.
Line One of the highly successful Nottingham Express Transit is now up and running, with two more tram lines planned. The Old Market Square is being transformed, so that it anchors a chain of pleasant public spaces. Work has started on a new £400 million Broadmarsh Centre with twice as much shopping space, and a prestigious Contemporary Arts Centre nearby. Nottingham already has nearly a 100 wireless internet 'hot spots' in bars, cafes and its universities, and it plans a citywide ICT network connecting workplaces and communities. A Station Masterplan contains the blueprint for a regional, national and international transport hub, linked to £200 million of new offices, shops and homes.
The new Nottingham will compete with Manchester, Newcastle and Leeds. NRL ensures that Nottingham will be physically fit for the future.
