The Waterside offers perhaps the greatest opportunity for any city in the UK to respond to changing patterns of work, life and leisure. It will enrich life for residents and offer a unique environment for investment.

The area is already a world stage, since it has an unrivalled concentration of sports venues at Trent Bridge, the Forest and County football grounds, Nottingham Racecourse and the National Watersports Centre. However the river corridor doesn't just host spectator sports. All along its banks there are facilities that enhance the lives of a great many individuals. There are rowing, canoeing and sailing clubs, riding stables, football and rugby pitches, angling areas, cycle tracks and walking routes. Wildlife enthusiasts can see a seasonally changing cast of waterfowl, from the Attenborough Nature Reserve right down to Holme Pierrepont.

The Waterside will go with the grain of all this outdoor activity to create a series of interlinked developments that respect their surroundings. A series of exemplar projects in environmental integration are planned that could change the demarcation between city and countryside. A Trent River Park, running along 13 kilometres of waterfront, will connect these communities.

The vision for the Waterside is a series of new neighbourhoods, with space to work in, and with the leisure facilities and public places that will draw many more people to the riverside.
